Privacy Policy — Vademecum Canada

1. Overview

Vademecum Canada is an informational drug-reference (vademecum) application for Android that lets you browse and search a catalog of drug products approved for the Canadian market, derived from Health Canada's Drug Product Database (DPD). The app is a reference tool and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

The drug catalog is bundled with the app and your searches are processed on your device. We do not require an account and do not ask you to provide personal information. To keep the app free, versions of the app that include advertising also integrate Google AdMob and Google Analytics for Firebase; this policy explains the limited data those services collect and the choices you have.

2. Information We Collect

• Information you provide: None is required. The app has no sign-up, login, or user profile. The search terms you type (brand names, active ingredients, ATC codes) are matched on your device against the bundled catalog and are not transmitted to us.
• Information collected automatically by third-party services: To display advertising and understand app usage, the third-party services in Section 6 may collect: device and account identifiers (including the Android Advertising ID), IP address (which may be used to estimate general/approximate location), app interaction and usage events, and diagnostic, crash, and performance data.
• We do not collect health information. The app does not build a health profile about you. We do not link your searches to your identity or send them to our servers, and any analytics events we record do not include the content of your searches.

3. How We Use Information

• To operate and display the on-device drug catalog and its search features.
• To display non-personalized (contextual) advertising (via Google AdMob) that keeps the app free to use.
• To understand aggregate, de-identified usage and app performance so we can improve stability and features.
• To detect, prevent, and address technical problems, fraud, and abuse.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your data to build health or medical profiles.

4. Local Storage

The drug catalog ships inside the app as a read-only database stored on your device; it is reference content, not personal data. The app also stores minimal preferences locally (for example, app settings and your advertising/analytics consent choices). On-device data is removed when you uninstall the app.

5. Permissions

• Internet / network access — used to load advertisements and to send anonymous analytics and diagnostics. The drug catalog itself works offline and does not require a network connection.
• The advertising service may register the Android Advertising ID permission (com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID) on newer Android versions.
• The app does not request access to your contacts, precise location, camera, microphone, personal files, or health sensors.

6. Third-Party Services

The advertising-enabled version of Vademecum Canada integrates the following Google services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

• Google AdMob (advertising). We use AdMob to serve non-personalized (contextual) advertising only — we do not build an advertising profile of you. The Google Mobile Ads SDK may still collect an IP address (used to estimate general location), user product interactions, diagnostic information, and device and account identifiers (including the Advertising ID) for ad delivery, frequency capping, measurement, and fraud prevention. • Google Analytics for Firebase (analytics). Helps us understand aggregate, de-identified app usage and performance. In this app, Advertising-ID collection by Analytics is disabled and ad-personalization signals are turned off; Analytics collects an app-instance identifier, device information, and app-interaction events. Analytics events do not include the content of your searches. (The Android Advertising ID is used only by the advertising service described above.)
• Google Play Services. Provides core platform, integrity, and delivery functionality.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell personal information. Data collected automatically by the services in Section 6 is shared with the respective providers (Google) to deliver ads, measure usage, and prevent fraud, as described in their policies. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the service.

8. Data Retention

We do not retain personal data on our own servers. Data collected by third-party services is retained according to their respective policies. On-device data persists until you clear it or uninstall the app. You can reset your Advertising ID at any time (see Section 11).

9. Security

We rely on Android's application sandbox and on the security practices of Google's SDKs, which transmit data over encrypted connections (TLS). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; however, the app holds no account credentials or health records of yours to protect.

10. Advertising, Analytics, and Consent (Canada — PIPEDA and Quebec Law 25)

Vademecum Canada is offered in Canada. We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, for residents of Quebec, Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector ("Law 25").

• The app serves only non-personalized (contextual) advertising. We do not build advertising profiles about you and do not use your information for interest-based or behavioural targeting or other profiling.
• For the limited data that non-personalized advertising and analytics require — such as an IP address, coarse location, and the Advertising ID used for frequency capping, measurement, and fraud prevention — we rely on the disclosures in this policy and your consent to use the app on that basis.
• You can opt out of ad personalization and reset or delete the Advertising ID at any time in Android Settings → Google → Ads.
• We collect no sensitive or health information, and we do not use your information for profiling.

11. Your Choices and Privacy Rights

• Access and correction: You may request access to, or correction of, personal information about you by contacting us (Section 15).
• Advertising and analytics controls: Reset or delete your Advertising ID and opt out of ad personalization in Android settings.
• Uninstall: Removing the app deletes all on-device data.
• Complaints: You may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) or, if you are in Quebec, the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (CAI).

12. Children's Privacy

Vademecum Canada is a general-audience and professional drug reference and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Consistent with Google's policies, identifiers such as the Advertising ID are not intended to be collected from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will address it.

13. Cross-Border Data Processing

Our service providers (Google) may store and process data on servers located outside Canada, including in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your province. By using the advertising-enabled version of the app, you acknowledge this transfer. We take steps consistent with PIPEDA and Law 25 in relation to such processing.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Effective Date" above will change, and material changes will be reflected in the app or on this page. Your continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
